A former Fidelity security guard was sentenced Wednesday in George Regional Court to five years in prison with an option to pay a fine of R10,000 for stealing a bag containing R100,000 from his employer.
< p>Zinzi Hawks spokesman Hani said 31-year-old Johan Venter stole the bag in November last year.
“On November 20, the defendant transported 107 bags of cash from the Fidelity base to the SBV Depot, but only 106 bags were booked in the depot.
“During an internal investigation, Venter confessed to taking the money. He took his manager to his private vehicle, where the purse was found. He was found to have already broken the seal on the bag and taken R2,230.”
The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Organized Crime Investigation Team in George.
” Venter opted to be fined R10,000 and declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Hani.
