The Gauteng Health Department is concerned about the alarming rise in new Covid-19 cases in the province.
On Wednesday, 8,881 Covid-19 cases were recorded across SA, of which 5,111 were in Gauteng – 58% of total.
Most of these new cases were recorded in Tshwane and Johannesburg subdistricts, according to the ministry.
Department spokesman Kwara Kekana said, Non-pharmaceutical measures are still the best way to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
“The department calls on all people in the province to do their part to protect themselves and the transmission contain the virus Adherence to preventive measures – physical distance of more than 1.5 m, wearing masks, hand hygiene, avoidance of public spaces and gatherings and early treatment if symptoms occur, “said Kekana.
She said the province continues to monitor compliance r Covid-19 measures in communities, schools and other public facilities ic rooms.
Kekana said the province is also intensifying its contact tracing efforts, especially in the hotspot areas
