Gauteng Traffic Police arrested a 36-year-old minibus cab driver in Carletonville on the West Rim for driving with three blood alcohol levels.
The driver was arrested Monday afternoon during an investigation at the police station in Carletonville while intoxicated.
The breathalyser found 1.24mg/1,000ml, which is three times the legal limit of 0.24mg/1,000ml.
The driver is expected to appear in Carletonville Magistrate’s Court Tuesday on charges of reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of drink driving.
“Drinking and driving often leads to impaired driving, which causes unnecessary accidents and causing the loss of human life. Gauteng Traffic Police will continue to patrol major roads to ensure road users comply with the Highway Code,” spokesman Sello Maremane said Part of its road safety program.
