Gauteng police arrested more than 1,500 suspected criminals and seized 14 unlicensed firearms over the weekend in crime-fighting operations in the province.
Lt-Col Mavela Masondo, spokeswoman for the provincial police, said more than 400 people were arrested in Ekurhuleni, 500 in Tshwane and more than 400 in Johannesburg.
He said during Operation O Kae Molao, police suspected of murder, robbery, rape, assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm, armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, kidnapping, fraud, drug trafficking and tampering with essential infrastructure.
Masondo said eight stolen and hijacked vehicles were seized in Tshwane and police Four seized unlicensed firearms.
