Gupta brothers Atul and Rajesh accused of state arrest have been arrested in Dubai.
Two sources from different government departments and one source close to the investigation confirmed to TimesLIVE that the Gupta brothers have been arrested.
“They have officially notified the country, yes. They arrested these guys on Saturday,” an insider told TimesLIVE.
The Department of Justice confirmed the arrests in a statement: “The Department of Justice and Correctional Services confirm it has received information from law enforcement agencies in the United States United Arab Emirates (UAE) that fugitives from justice, namely Rajesh and Atul Gupta, have been arrested.
“Discussions between various law enforcement agencies in the UAE and South Africa on how to proceed are ongoing. The SA government will continue to work with the United Arab Emirates.”
Stiaan Krause, who was formerly part of the BDK lawyers, is to ensure the legality of the brother’s arrest.
In July 2021, the National Law Enforcement Agency (NPA) Directorate of Investigations said it was intensifying efforts to bring the Gupta brothers and their wives back to South Africa to face state capture charges.
Interpol had ” red releases” for her arrest. Red Notices are issued to fugitives wanted for law enforcement and are issued to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest an individual awaiting extradition.
