‘It should have been me’: shattered husband on murder of Yolandi Botes

The family of Yolandi Botes, whose body parts were found in the Vaal, are seeking help from anyone who can shed light on their brutal murder.

The 35-year-old was missing April 26th after boarding an Uber email service vehicle at OR Tambo International Airport. She had traveled to Johannesburg from George.

In an interview with Pixie Pink, Botes’ sister Mariska Oosthuizen, an activist for abused women and children, said they became suspicious after not hearing from her. < / p>

Oosthuizen said Botes was very active in the WhatsApp group of the family she started and it was “strange” for them to be silent.

“We stood very much close and it was very strange that we didn’t hear from her, “she told Pink.

An Uber spokesperson commented,” We are deeply saddened to hear of this tragic news . Our thoughts and hearts go to the family. While nothing suggests this incident is related to Uber, our Law Enforcement Relations Team (LERT) is working closely with local authorities to assist with their investigation. “

The Free State Police later confirmed the body parts of Botes were found in the Vaal next to Villiers last week.

Police spokeswoman Brig Motantsi Makhele said a father and son were in a holiday resort on Fishing the river would have made the gruesome discovery. “The boy went around and saw something in the water that looked like part of a body.”

The police were called and it was confirmed that it was a human foot. Police divers recovered a number of body parts.

“The body is confirmed to be a woman who was reported missing in Brakpan on April 26th. The link could be made through a tattoo that she had. The body was confirmed to be Yolandi Botes’, said Makhele.

Oosthuizen asked the South Africans to come forward if they had any information that could help resolve the case.

“My mother’s heart, like all of us, is broken to pieces. I will never forget our mother’s screams. It was cut into pieces and it’s a reality and we have to face it.

“It’s inhuman. I can’t believe the person who did this can sleep at night. Do not you mind? When you eat out or watch your own family, don’t you mind? It could have been your sister or your mother.

“I never knew that people could be so cruel, and I never knew that something like that could happen to us. What goes through your mind is how she had to beg and scream for help.

“I have a feeling that her voice should not be silenced because she died in a horrible way”, she said to Pink>

Botes’ husband Wietzue also shared the pain of posting the pieces on social media.

“My baby, I’m shaken. I am not lying, I am fighting here. I don’t know where to go from here, I don’t know if I can get up from here, I don’t know if I want to get up from here. I just lost my whole world, I don’t think I can do it. RIP my baby, I’m coming, ”read a post from him on Facebook.

In a post four days ago Wietzue shared several pictures of you and wrote:“ I miss you so much, my baby. I know I have to pull myself together. But God knows I can’t. “

Wietzue wrote on Tuesday:” I miss you so much today. I don’t know how to do it. I should have preferred it to be. “

There has been speculation that Botes’ death was related to the discovery of a blood-soaked room in a lodge in Kempton Park – shortly before her body was found in the river.

TimesLIVE previously reported that a receptionist at the lodge made the gruesome discovery last week when she found out why a guest who had booked the room hadn’t checked out. < / p>

When she opened the door, she was greeted with a horror scene. The floors, linens, bathroom tiles, hand basin and shower were all smeared with blood.

No body was found in the room. The police are waiting for the result of the DNA tests carried out there.
