A former Ekurhuleni City Police officer has been sentenced to six years in prison after demanding cash from a driver.
Mazulwandile Wilson Makaula, 49, was convicted of corruption in the Vosloorus District Court.
Hawks spokesman Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu said in May 2018 that Makaula was on duty when he intercepted a driver in Vosloorus during a random stopover and search.
” After the vehicle was searched, Makaula R300 demanded the driver to seize the vehicle for no good reason. The driver gave Makaula R150 cash so that his vehicle could not be confiscated.
“On the same day, Makaula requested the outstanding balance of R150 from the driver to release the vehicle. “
A stab operation was carried out at a shopping complex in Vosloorus that arrested Makaula in possession of the cash from R150, Mulamu said.
