Joburg Water pump station ‘not on fire’

A statement about a City Power substation on fire affecting the water supply is falsified, Johannesburg’s water utility said on Sunday.

In a statement, Johannesburg Water dispelled rumors about its Eikenhof pumping station allegedly by a fire at a nearby substation.

The fake statement had warned of a power outage caused by a fire at a City Power substation that would affect the Eikenhof pumping station

“The circulated statement states that residents of the following areas: Greater Roodepoort/Randburg area, Langlaagte/Southdale and the Soweto areas should be aware of the outage… Johannesburg Water would like to clarify that the statement was not issued by us,” Johannesburg said Water.

However, it has been announced that on Friday 3 June due to the installation of a new valve at the water treatment plant in vo n Vereeniging would result in a water shutdown resulting in reduced water supply in several parts of Johannesburg.

“The water supply to the Eikenhof Booster Station will be reduced by 50% and this will affect several areas in the service area of Johannesburg Water,” the utility said.
