KZN farmer convicted of murder, attempted murder for funeral shooting

The Supreme Court in Pietermaritzburg has found KwaZulu-Natal farmer Edward Philip Walter Solomon, 69, guilty of murder and attempted murder during a 2017 altercation at his Cramond farm.

The provincial National Prosecutor’s Office (NPA) spokeswoman, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, said Solomon lived on the farm with the late Mothi Ngubane and the complainant Mondli Lembede.< /span>

On the day of the incident, Ngubane and Lembede were part of a funeral procession at their homestead when Solomon interrupted them and asked the mourners to leave the area.

“When they refused, he fired a shot, mortally wounding Lembede and Ngubane. Then he fled to his house,” she said.

Solomon was sentenced on Tuesday. The matter was adjourned to October 3 for pre-sentencing reports.

Solomon has been released from bail and remains in custody.
