Zikalala posted on Facebook that he and his family were “met without expectation”.

“So I worked until midnight yesterday [Saturday] to coordinate the evacuation of people at risk of flooding.

“Then later, at dawn, I learned that I had to be evacuated myself as all the roads around had been washed away.”

“I am with my three boys Ntobeko, Awande and Sandiswa drove out himself.

But all of this could not have been accomplished without the support and prayers of the one true Nelly Zikalala,” he said.

Zanele Mbokazi, co-founder of Crown Gospel Music Awards, could not reach her home in La Mercy on Saturday night because of residents “No way in or out”.

She posted on Facebook about her plight on Sunday: “That’s why we couldn’t get home last night. Our area is totally isolated, all roads are closed.”

Mbokazi said she tried for four hours on Saturday to no avail to reach her home.

She was forced to walk in a Hotel to seek refuge. She posted images of the collapsed M4 motorway and other roads in the area hit by torrential rain.
