KZN pupil who was suspended over traditional attire ends her life

A KwaZulu-Natal student who was suspended from school because of her traditional dress but was later allowed to return after the Department of Education intervened has ended her life.

On Tuesday, the Department of Education announced to the The province with was saddened by the news of the death of a 15-year-old student at Nombika High in iLembe District.

The student was reportedly hanged over traditional clothing she was required to wear as a result of her calling from her ancestors .

“The deceased was in the news recently because she had a problem with the school regarding their traditional rituals.

“The department intervened and she was back at the school and was taught like everyone else.”

According to the department, the student wrote all of her June exams.

“The department has not determined what led to their decision to take the to take life. The district manager of iLembe has sent a team to her family to clarify the circumstances of her untimely death,” it said.
