Two lions were spotted on farms in the Baltimore area outside Lephalale in Limpopo after they reportedly escaped from a private game farm.
The President of the National African Farmers Union (Nafu), Motsepe Matlala said Monday that the farmers spotted lion tracks on October 1 and began the investigation.
Matlala said the farmers spotted the lions on October 2 on a farm in the area. He added that they had fled from a nearby private game ranch.
He said the farmers had to use tractors on Sunday evening to prevent the lions from entering the ranch.
< Matlala said the big cats posed a serious threat to the livelihoods of the farmers and their workers.
He said two rangers were sent into the area to try to capture the lions safely.
