LISTEN | Enyobeni tavern owner, 2 staff arrested for selling booze to children

The owner of the Enyobeni tavern in East London and two employees have been arrested as the forensic investigation into the death of 21 teenagers continues.

Brig Tembinkosi Kinana said the 52-year-old owner and employee were old 33 and 34, were arrested over the weekend and Tuesday afternoon by a team of detectives working on the Scenery Park tragedy when guests collapsed and died on June 26.

This happened after the Eastern Cape Liquor Board had settled charges of violating the Alcohol Act. Police are investigating the alleged violation or violation of the law for the sale or supply of alcohol to children under 18 and the sale or supply of alcohol to children under 18 by the owner.

The Owner is expected to appear in East London Magistrates’ Court on August 19 in relation to these charges.

Two employees have been given an option to be fined under the Act. If they don’t pay, they must appear in the same court.

The forensic investigation into the cause of death is ongoing. Kinana said the results would be made available to affected families “at an appropriate time and after the investigation is complete.” we can achieve the desired results. This is the start of our behind-the-scenes work,” Mene said.
