Only 200,000 freshmen will be admitted to SA public universities this year – less than a quarter of the applications received.
Thandi Lewin , acting Deputy Director-General for Higher Education at the Department for Higher Education and Training, says the demand for higher education is growing.
Earlier this week The Sunday Times reported that universities have received more than 2000 million applications for this one Year. This applies to the 26 public universities in the country.
The department has opened the Central Application Clearing House (CACH) service so that students who are not admitted to the course can find suitable places at universities. Students who are having trouble finding a seat can:
- WhatsApp: Send “Hello” to 078-776-8660;
- Visit the CACH online portal;
- USSD: *134*225#; or
- contact the call center: 0860-690-722.
