LISTEN | Stage 2 load-shedding from 5pm, with the possibility of higher stages

Level 2 load shedding will be performed on Tuesday from 17:00 to 22:00, with the possibility of higher levels should there be any outages during the day.

“Since last night is one unit each in Arnot, The Grootvlei and Matla power plants either failed or were taken off the grid for repairs. At the same time, two units were restarted: one each at Kriel and Grootvlei power plants.

“We currently have 3,049 MW under planned maintenance, while another 15,762 MW are unavailable due to outages,” he told Eskom .

The utility said one generating unit each at the Kusile and Arnot power stations is expected to be back online on Tuesday afternoon.

Eskom has urged South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly, especially between 5am and 9am and 4pm to 10pm.

The onset of winter has resulted in increased demand, leading to capacity constraints, particularly during peak evening and morning periods said Eskom. “Unfortunately, this would typically require the implementation of load shedding during evening peaks.”
