Stage 2 load shedding returns on Thursday from 17:00 to 22:00 due to a lack of generation capacity during the evening peak.
“Last night a power generation unit at Lethabo power station was taken offline for repairs taken. One generation unit each at the Kusile and Tutuka power plants has been brought back into service,” the utility said in an update.
“One generation unit at the Matimba and Tutuka power plants is expected to start up again this afternoon.”< /p>
Eskom has 2,379 MW for planned maintenance, while another 15,365 MW of capacity is unavailable due to outages.
“The onset of winter has resulted in increased demand and this is becoming capacity constraints throughout lead period, particularly during evening and morning peaks. Unfortunately, this would typically require load shedding during evening peaks.”
