A 34-year-old man will be filing bail Wednesday after he was arrested for operating an allegedly illegal gold processing laboratory in Pilgrim’s Rest, Mpumalanga.
Thabang Ntsibane, of Lesotho, was arrested on Friday arrested after appearing before the Graskop Magistrate Court.
He was arrested Thursday during a police operation that focused on illegal mining.
“The operation was carried out in Pilgrim’s Rest where Ntsibane ran an illegal gold-bearing material laboratory.
“The team confiscated bags of gold-bearing materials and cash that were in the suspect’s possession,” said police spokesman Capt Dineo Sekgotodi.
The suspect was charged with violating the Precious Metals Act and Immigration Act.
