A motorist was shot dead in a robbery on the N4 motorway outside Pretoria after being stopped with a flat tyre.
Gauteng Police Spokesman Col Dimakatso Sello confirmed to police in Akasia, northwest of Pretoria, are investigating a murder after a man was found dead in a vehicle around 1am on Saturday.
Sello said police and tube cops were called to a crime scene where they found the Body of a man with gunshot wounds found in an Audi vehicle missing a front tire and key.
She said the circumstances of the incident were unknown at the time and the victim had not yet been identified.
Two crime alerts seen by TimesLIVE have been sent to law enforcement by Bakwena Route Patrol Services. They show there were two similar incidents within 24 hours in the same area.
A warning issued Saturday morning said the motorist stopped after hitting rocks, which appeared to have been put on the road early hours on Saturday morning.
The warning issued at 01:15 says the incident happened near Kroons Chicken between M17 and the township of Ga-rankuwa .
“The vehicle is alleged to have passed stones placed on the highway, after the driver stopped to check/change tires he was shot and personal belongings taken away”, says the alert N4 in the Brits area where one person was robbed and fatally shot.
Chris van den Heever, owner of Secure Guarding, one of the security firms that responded to the two incidents, said told TimesLIVE that their sub investigation revealed a group of about six armed and “aggressive” men were behind the attacks.
“We will make these groups operative on N4 to eat and commit these senseless murders,” said Van den Heever.
