PODCAST | Deadly lies: the Lotter family murders

On July 19, 2008, a young man stumbled into the Westville Police Station. He informed the officers on duty that their presence at his friend’s house on Thames Street was required – her parents were dead.

Riekie and Johnnie Lotter had received death threats for several months and it appeared that they were threatening The predictions had finally come true.

However, when members of the Durban Organized Crime Unit began looking at the evidence and comparing it to the story of the Lotter children Hardus and Nicolette, it became clear that there is more to this story than meets the eye.

Within hours of the two brutal murders, investigators began a bizarre story of coercive control, cult-like behavior and the lies that led to the ultimate betrayal.

In episode 60 of True Crime South Africa we get to the bottom of this incredible case and try to understand how two seemingly normal young people knock out so profoundly ntrolled and manipulated.
