On March 2, 2016, a young boy discovered the naked body of a young woman on his way to school in a communal toilet in Khayelitsha.
19-year-old Sinoxolo Mafevuka had been raped and strangled. Her body had slumped over a leaky toilet 200 meters from her family’s sleeping quarters.
The investigation into the brutal murder of the young woman would begin slowly, but soon with another horrific murder of a whole other location than Khayelitsha.
Two young men were arrested two weeks after the murder – but instead of bringing justice, the arrests and subsequent trial were only intended to bring to light how much Mafevuka was abandoned .
In episode 58 of True Crime South Africa , we look at the Mafevuka case and the deep injustices it highlights in our society.
