Western Cape Police have confirmed that the 32-year-old Sea Point Police officer who was seriously injured in a shooting at New Somerset Hospital on Saturday succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning.
” The Police officer’s death has been confirmed by hospital,” said police spokeswoman Brig Novela Potelwa.

Two patients were also fatally injured when a man allegedly grabbed the police officer’s gun and fired.
Potelwa said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident was ongoing.
She said crime scene reports indicate that Sea Point police had taken a 35-year-old suspect to Somerset Hospital for medical treatment when a man at the station seized a police officer’s firearm and punched him in the face head sc hoss.
“The man then shot dead two patients who were near him. Both died at the scene.” She said.
She said SAPS officers at the scene subsequently disarmed and arrested the suspect.
Potelwa said the names of two other people in the Ages 42 and 48 who were killed are not yet known to have been released.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt. Gen. Thembisile Patekile has sent his condolences to the family of the deceased police officer.
