In view of further failures and delays in the return of generating units, load shedding will be implemented on Monday between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
This will be in phase 1.
The power utility company announced that the outages total 15,570 MW of capacity, while the planned maintenance includes 1,273 MW of capacity.
“Eskom regrets to announce that it will be between 5pm and 10pm this evening : 00 am will implement a level 1 load shedding due to the loss of two generating units in Kusile and one each in the Kendal and Tutuka power plants, ”it said.
The restrictions in the power grid were due to delays in the return of a unit in the Kusile, Duvha and Matla power plants.
The utility said the likelihood of load shedding is high for the rest of the week as the system remains vulnerable.
“This Capacity bottlenecks will continue for the foreseeable future Ren and all South Africans are urged to reduce their electricity consumption, especially between 5pm and 10pm, when the winter demand is at its highest, “it said.
