Senior EFF council member Mxolisi Buthelezi was shot dead on Thursday on his way to work in northern KwaZulu-Natal, KwaZulu-Natal Police said.
Police spokesman Lt. Col. Nqobile Gwala said Buthelezi at 7 am , 41, was driving his vehicle in the Ogengele area of Mtubatuba when he was shot during a shootout from a passing car.
“He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene explained. The motive for the killing is unknown. A murder case is being investigated by KwaMsane SAPS,” said Gwala.
Buthelezi was the Chair of the EFF in Umkhanyakude District Municipality.
