Six arrested for Free State mob justice incident which led to death of three

Six suspects were arrested in February over a mob justice incident that killed three people accused by community members of committing crimes in Phuthaditjhaba, Free State, provincial police said on Friday.

< p>That’s right claimed that on February 13, some community members of Sebokeng Village tracked down and arrested four people they suspected of committing crimes in the area.

The mob attacked the four. Two died at the scene and the third later died at a local hospital. The fourth person survived. The names of the dead were Papi Motsapi, 47, Lerato Mokoena, 31, and Moeketsi Noto, 31.

An intelligence search operation led by several detectives led to the arrest of the six suspects. between the ages of 20 and 30, on Thursday.

They are expected to appear in Phuthaditjhaba Magistrates’ Court on Monday to face three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Mob justice has never been a solution to crime and never will be. We urge community members to have faith in our police force and justice system to ensure justice prevails,” said Lt-Gen Baile Motswenyane, Free State Police Commissioner.
