A specialist engineer at Absa who allegedly transferred R103 million to six different bank accounts over a four-month period has been arrested by the Hawks.
Sandton Absa engineer Xolela Masebeni did Money allegedly transferred between September and December 2021.
Hawks spokesman Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the matter was reported to authorities after an internal investigation by the bank.
“Masebeni was successful tracked down and arrested in Queenstown Eastern Cape Wednesday 19 January,” she said.
He was charged with theft and appeared in Komani (Queenstown) Magistrates’ Court the next day.
The 30-year-old has been remanded in custody for further investigation.
“The matter has been referred to the Palm Ridge Commercial Crimes Court and is expected to appear in court on January 27 for counsel and a request for bail asked,” Mulamu said.
