Eskom said Level 2 load shedding will be implemented on Wednesday from 17:00 to 22:00 as generation capacity runs short to meet peak demand in the evening.
The utility said , two generating units at Hendrina power station and one at Matimba power station were taken off the grid for repairs.
“One generating unit at Arnot power station was put back into operation. One generating unit each in the Kusile and Tutuka power plants is scheduled to go back into operation this afternoon. We have 2,329 MW for planned maintenance while another 15,988 MW of capacity is unavailable due to outages,” it said will lead to capacity bottlenecks, especially during the evening and morning peaks. “Unfortunately, this generally requires the implementation of load shedding during evening peaks.
“Eskom would like to remind the public that load shedding is implemented only as a last resort to protect the national power grid. We urge all South Africans to continue to be energy efficient.”
