One suspect was shot and wounded and another arrested in an operation in Roosevelt Park in Johannesburg following an armed robbery on Monday.
Police spokesman Lt-Col Mavela Masondo said the two men had been arrested after police received information about a planned robbery in the practice on Monday morning.
Masondo said members of the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Department were keeping the practice under close surveillance.
He said at around 8:45 am, officers discovered two suspects leaving the practice.
“As the police approached, the suspects jumped into a getaway car. A high-speed chase and shooting followed until the suspect’s car hit a mast. “
Masondo said one suspect was shot and taken to hospital under police surveillance, while the second suspect, who was uninjured, was arrested.
The suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and cell phones and laptops stolen from the office.
“Both suspects are being profiled to see if they are linked to other crimes, particularly robbery of doctors’ offices in and around Gauteng, “said Masondo.
The two men are expected to appear in Johannesburg District Court on Tuesday for robbery, possession of an unlicensed one Firearm and suspected stolen property.
