Two suspected drug dealers who almost caused an accident in Pretoria East on Friday quickly discovered they had gotten tangled up in the wrong car.
The gray sedan they were driving just missed nearly a head-on collision with a car manned by employees of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) Traffic Academy.
“Members immediately stopped the gray sedan,” said RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane. “One suspect jumped out of the vehicle as soon as it stopped and tried to flee with a bag in hand.
“The officers gave chase and after he was arrested, they discovered drugs inside the bag being carried past identified the male suspect.”
Zwane said other packets of drugs in powder and crystal form were discovered when the vehicle was searched. He said the powder weighed more than 2kg.
The two men are being held at Hercules Police Station, where they are charged with drug possession and reckless driving. “The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be added,” Zwane said.
RTMC CEO Makhosini Msibi praised the officers. “We commend the members of the College for this achievement. The war on drugs in our communities is a top priority for the government and we all have a role to play to stop drug traffickers from destroying our communities,” Msibi said.
The suspects are expected to appear at to the Pretoria Central Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
