Limpopo Police on Thursday asked the public for help to identify a child believed to be between the ages of two and three who was found murdered and mutilated last week.
In a statement, police said the infant was The dismembered body was stuffed into a gym bag and dumped on the N1 near the Shell Ultra City petrol station, which is near the Protea Hotel south of Polokwane.
“On Thursday, May 19th, around 7.50am, the police were made aware of the abandoned bag on the N1 in Westenburg by a passer-by. Upon arriving at the scene, police found the infant’s mutilated body in a black bag with “Sport Ruixinga” written on the side. The child wore a blue tracksuit with white stripes and a pair of black booties. Police also found a pink baby blanket, a towel and a blue and white sarong [in the bag],” said Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.
“Preliminary police investigation revealed the deceased was hacked with an unknown object before putting them in your pocket. The toddler had a bandage wrapped around his left leg and arm and was already in a state of decomposition.”
The provincial police commissioner, Lt. Gen. Thembi Hadebe, urged anyone with information to come forward , and said police “want to track down the heartless perpetrators of this appalling crime and also find the child’s parents”.
