Tshwane head-on collision death toll rises to 15, 37 injured

Fifteen people have been killed and 37 injured in a crash between a lorry and a bus on the M17 at Patryshoek near the Bundu Inn resort in Tshwane just after 5am on Friday.

Emergency in Tshwane spokesman Thabo Mabaso said the cause of the accident is being investigated by law enforcement.

Emergency Service personnel arrived at the scene to find a bus and truck had collided head-on and some patients vehicles were trapped in both.

“Tshwane Fire Brigade, Gauteng Ambulance and private ambulances began treating and extricating the injured.”

Paramedics declared 15 patients at the scene dead dead while 37 patients were taken to the hospitals Dr. George Mukhari, Steve Biko and Kalafong.

“Of the 15 deceased, 10 were women and five were men. EMTs determined that 26 patients sustained minor to moderate injuries, four of whom sustained moderate to critical injuries and seven suffered critical i njuries,” Mabaso said.

The M17 road remains between the and exit of N4 and K8 Rosslyn closed to allow recovery of deceased, bus and truck – crime scene investigations.

“The closure is expected to last in excess of five hours.”
