Two fake ‘travel agents’ convicted of fraud after promising victims overseas holidays

A man from Durban and his criminal partner were found guilty of 18 cases of fraud after posing as travel agents offering vacation victims around the world.

Police spokesman Capt Nqobile Gwala told Megasen Roland Chetty, 38, and Sarasvathi Belinda Pillay, 47, will be sentenced by the Durban Regional Court on October 21st.

They were found guilty of defrauding their victims of R1.2 million.

Gwala said the duo had been linked to a number of fraud cases committed in Chatsworth, Phoenix and Tongaat in 2019.

“Their modus operandi was to give people discounted vacations abroad and to promise on site. “
