Two suspects, aged 48 and 39, are expected to appear in Germiston Magistrates Court Monday for alleged possession of rhino horns.
The Hawks mean business The Germiston Organized Crime Investigation Team, Stock Theft Unit and Department of Environment officials acted on information about a vehicle carrying rhino horns traveling from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng.
The Authorities intercepted the identified vehicle, a silver Toyota Fortuner, with two occupants.
“While searching the vehicle, police found two pieces of rhinoceros hidden in the front of the vehicle were vehicle. The horns appear to have been recently extracted,” said Hawks spokesman Capt Lloyd Ramovha.
The Hawks said the men have been charged with violating the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act .
