Unplanned outages and service disruption after flooding in George

Main roads in George on the Garden Route are flooded after heavy rains.

On Monday, the community asked residents to stay at home.

The community spokeswoman, Chantel Edwards-Klose said several streets in and around the city are flooded, dangerous and impassable.

“Due to heavy rain it comes down on Langenhoven Street near Virgin Active, Wellington Street, Craddock Street major floods near Watson and Hope Streets, ”she said.

Herman Pieters, Garden Route District communications officer, said flooding was ongoing in the area, particularly in George Parish.

“We are responding to incidents within available resources,” he said.

Pieters said they worked with the George Township to respond to flood incidents.

“There have been a lot of minor incidents,” he said.

The community has the public t warned to stay away from roads if possible and until most of the water has drained.

Edwards-Klose said the drainage caps are lifting due to the flooding. “The municipal services are addressing the impact in this regard. Please drive slowly and carefully when you need to be on the streets or when you return home, “she said.

A few areas across the city have also experienced unplanned power outages, she said.

“Kraaibosch Village, Kraaibosch Estate, Weligart and Wilderness Heights are gone. The community participates. We ask for your patience, as safety issues can affect our electricians’ ability to deal with some matters. “

Motorists have been asked to leave Langenhoven Street, Hope Street, Mary Street, R102 Old Airport Road, Fiegland Street, Borchards, Merriman Street, which is closed from Laing Street to Union and Saasveld Road.
