Watch: ‘Sakina… we are live!’ – SABC stages hilarious on-air gaffe

If you tuned into SABC this morning, you will have have witnessed an extremely uncomfortable exchange between two female anchors. Sakina Kamwendo appeared to bluntly correct her colleague, before basking in an awkward silence.

‘We are live, Jessica’ gets the SABC treatment

Thankfully, this was all STAGED. The clip is a parody of a video from Namibia, which has spread like wildfire this morning. A cringe-worthy on-air exchange across the border has made headlines in South Africa – and SABC has decided to get in on the act, with a smirk and a smile. Hey, in the middle of a pandemic, we’ll take any laughs we can get.

Kamwendo can be seen REFUSING to carry on with the broadcast, accusing her fellow presenter of going for the wrong line. She’s then reminded that the pair are live on-air – and Sakina gives it the best death stare you’re ever likely to see.

Newsreader ‘Jessica’ becomes a cult hero online

A Namibian sports presenter went viral overnight, for awkwardly calling out a female news anchor who had crossed back to her during a live broadcast. It isn’t yet certain when exactly this occurred, but all this played out on-air during a programme onNBC News Live, an evening news programme in the country.

Some social media users have suggested that there may have been some pre-existing tensions between both anchors. A woman purported to be Jessica on Twitter, denied there was any bad blood, and insisted she was just trying to correct her co-worker and hadn’t realised they were still live.
