Statistics from a period of seven days in the Western Cape have shown how the unvaccinated exposed themselves to a high risk of death.
According to data from Dr. Saadiq Kariem, head of operations at the Ministry of Health of the Western Cape, 98.3% of the deaths among those over 60 were among the unvaccinated.
Admissions to the Covid-19 hospital in this one Age group were 96% unvaccinated and only 4% vaccinated. Of the total cases in this age group, 92% were unvaccinated.
He said 38% of eligible people in the province had been vaccinated and the province was still 65 Covid-19 deaths and 1,505 infections per day.
This is at its peak compared to 122 deaths and 3,543 infections per day.
< p> The province will not have left the third wave until the daily infections drop to 530. According to the modeling, there is only a 20% probability that the province will leave the third wave by September 18th.
“Only Limpopo and Gauteng have technically got out of the third wave “Said Kariem. “Others stay in it, and we’ve actually seen increases in the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Free State.”
Prime Minister Alan Winde said when the province was still in the third peak, “The numbers are falling every day” and vaccination coverage was high in some areas.
In Overberg it was 98%, on the west coast over 80% and in Klipfontein 78%.
Two large communities that are still ignoring the statistics are Mitchell’s Plain and Khayelitsha, which have 43% and 47% coverage, respectively.
Kariem said in some cases that in these two areas “crazy conspiracy theories abound” on infections, hospital admissions and deaths among the vaccinated.
Health -MEC Nomafrench Mbombo of the Western Cape, who participated in the vaccination of the homeless in the Methodist Church at Sea Point on T. attended hursday, saying “nobody should be left behind” and the only hope to “save the summer” was to curb the spread of misinformation and beat people up.
